A Succesful Project Kick-off!
A mapping exercise for the project kick-off
On Thursday, July 30th, the City of Barberton project team met with consulting planners, MS Consultants, to officially kick off the Barberton 2041 Master Plan. The meeting gave City staff, community leaders, and the project team a chance to discuss the plan's purpose, key community priorities, and the issues and opportunities that will shape Barberton over the next 15 years.
During the kickoff, the team discussed initial concepts and themes for the plan, along with Barberton’s overarching needs and wants related to housing, economic development, transportation, parks and recreation, community character, land use, and quality of life. The conversation also focused on Barberton’s existing strengths, challenges, and opportunities for future growth, redevelopment, and investment. These discussions will help establish a strong foundation for the planning process and ensure that the plan reflects the community’s priorities.
The kickoff also provided an opportunity to review the project schedule, upcoming engagement activities, and the plan development process. After the meeting, MS Consultants began work on the community survey, project branding and promotional materials, and the existing conditions report. These early efforts will help build a clear understanding of Barberton today while creating opportunities for residents, businesses, and community stakeholders to help shape the city’s future.
The project team is looking forward to bringing the community into the planning process and gathering input throughout the project. The first major public engagement opportunity will be the project’s open house on October 20th, where residents will be invited to learn more about the Barberton 2041 Master Plan, share their ideas, and help identify the priorities that will guide the plan. You can also meet some of the project team and discuss the survey at Mum Fest on Saturday, September 26th!
